Teaching practice phase I
Week 1: (25-09-2024 to 27-09-2024)
The first phase of my teaching practice commenced this week at D.V.M.N.N.M. HSS Maranalloor, marking the beginning of an exciting and insightful journey. I was assigned to teach Classes 8B and 8F under the guidance of Jayasree teacher. As I stepped into the classroom on the first day, a mix of excitement and nervousness filled me. However, as I introduced myself to the students, I could sense a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which helped me ease into the role of a teacher.
To establish a good rapport with the students, I took time to interact with them, understand their learning styles, and create a comfortable learning environment. I introduced the chapter "Lights on the Hills", making sure to present it in an engaging manner to spark their interest. It was a rewarding experience to observe their curiosity and responses, which motivated me further.
Apart from classroom teaching, I also engaged in noon meal duty and discipline duty. These responsibilities provided me with a deeper understanding of the non-academic aspects of school life. Noon meal duty allowed me to interact with students outside the classroom and observe their daily routines, while discipline duty gave me an opportunity to develop my classroom management skills by ensuring a proper and organized environment in school premises.
The second and third days of my teaching practice coincided with 'Swaralaya 2024,' the school’s youth festival. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to witness the artistic and cultural vibrancy of the school. I was assigned the duty of announcing the events, a responsibility that allowed me to be an integral part of the festival. The experience of making announcements, coordinating with students and teachers, and ensuring smooth transitions between events enhanced my confidence and communication skills.
The festival showcased a variety of performances, including classical dance, folk dance, instrumental music, recitation, and elocution. Each event was a testament to the immense talent and dedication of the students. Watching them perform with such passion was truly heartwarming. The energy, enthusiasm, and spirit of healthy competition made the festival a memorable experience not just for the participants but for everyone involved.
This week has been an enriching experience, blending teaching, student interactions, school responsibilities, and cultural engagement. I learned the importance of balancing academic and extracurricular activities, and I gained valuable insights into classroom management and event coordination. The warmth of the students, the support of my mentor teacher, and the vibrant school environment have made my initial days of teaching practice both inspiring and fulfilling.

Week 2 (30/09/2024 - 04/10/2024)
This week was a continuation of my journey in the classroom, filled with learning experiences and self-improvement.
I continued teaching the chapter Lights on the Hills, ensuring that students understood its themes, literary elements, and deeper meanings. Since one class was previously missed, I utilized free periods in both sections to compensate for the lost time. This not only helped maintain the flow of lessons but also reinforced my ability to manage time efficiently.
After completing Lights on the Hills, I introduced the new chapter, Rosa Parks Sat Still. This chapter provided an excellent opportunity to discuss themes of courage, justice, and the fight for civil rights. I encouraged students to actively participate in discussions, making connections between historical events and present-day social issues. To reinforce their learning, I assigned classwork and notes, ensuring they had comprehensive material for reference.
A special event this week was the eye-sight camp organized by the school. It was a well-planned initiative aimed at ensuring students' and teachers’ eye health. Observing and being part of such a meaningful activity highlighted the school’s commitment to student welfare beyond academics.
Reflecting on this week, I feel a growing sense of confidence in my teaching abilities. Each day presents new challenges and learning moments that help me refine my approach in the classroom. Managing lessons, engaging students, and balancing responsibilities have all contributed to my professional and personal growth. I am motivated to keep improving and look forward to the experiences ahead.
Week 3(07/10/2024- 10/10/2024)
This week was filled with engaging academic activities, responsibilities, and special events that contributed to both my professional growth and my understanding .
The week began with the continuation of the chapter *Rosa Parks Sat Still*. This chapter provided an enriching learning experience as students engaged in discussions about justice, equality, and civil rights. I encouraged them to analyze Rosa Parks' act of resistance in a broader historical context, relating it to modern-day social movements. Assignments and discussions helped deepen their understanding, making the lesson more interactive and meaningful.
One of the highlights of the week was the **Space Week Celebration** organized by the Student Police Cadet (SPC). The event was an exciting opportunity for students to explore the wonders of space, astronomy, and scientific advancements. It was inspiring to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they participated in various activities. Being a part of such initiatives reinforced my belief in the importance of interdisciplinary learning.
Another significant event was the PTA meeting, where parents and teachers came together to discuss students’ academic progress and overall development. Attending the meeting gave me valuable insights into the importance of parental involvement in education. It also helped me understand the expectations of parents regarding their children's learning journey.
Additionally, I was assigned to invigilate the NAAS exam, an important responsibility that required focus and discipline. Ensuring a fair and smooth examination process was a learning experience in itself, as it gave me exposure to handling official duties beyond regular classroom teaching.
This week, I also had the opportunity to conduct a story writing and poetry writing competition for Upper Primary (UP), High School (HS), and Higher Secondary (HSS) students. The enthusiasm and creativity displayed by the students were truly inspiring. Reading their stories and poems gave me a deeper appreciation for their imaginative abilities and linguistic skills. Organizing such competitions reinforced my understanding of the role of co-curricular activities in holistic education.
Apart from teaching, I was also entrusted with noon meal duty and discipline duty. These responsibilities, though seemingly routine, provided important learning experiences. Noon meal duty helped me observe students' nutritional habits and interactions outside the classroom, emphasizing the importance of ensuring their well-being beyond academics. Discipline duty, on the other hand, helped me understand classroom management in a broader sense, allowing me to develop strategies to maintain a positive and respectful learning
This week was a testament to the multifaceted role of a teacher. Beyond delivering lessons, I was actively involved in academic, administrative, and extracurricular activities, all of which contributed to my growth as an educator. I realized that effective teaching is not just about imparting knowledge but also about fostering discipline, encouraging creativity, and facilitating holistic development.
I also learned the importance of adaptability—switching between teaching, event coordination, supervision, and administrative tasks required careful planning and time management. As I continue this journey, I am becoming more confident in handling diverse responsibilities while staying committed to my goal of becoming an effective educator.
Week 4: 14/10/2024 – 18/10/2024)
This week was filled with a variety of academic and co-curricular activities, providing me with valuable learning experiences as a B.Ed trainee.
The week began with an assembly conducted to congratulate the winners of the sub-district sports meet. It was inspiring to see the students' hard work and achievements being recognized, fostering a sense of motivation and sportsmanship among them.
As part of the Red Cross activities, a quiz competition was conducted, which enhanced students’ awareness and knowledge of social service and health-related topics. Organizing and overseeing this event helped me understand the importance of integrating extracurricular activities into school life.
In academics, I introduced the new chapter The Village Blacksmith, engaging students with various activities to enhance their comprehension and analytical skills. I also assisted in the NAAS examination invigilation, which allowed me to understand the importance of maintaining discipline and fairness during assessments.
Additionally, I was involved in overseeing students preparing for the sub-district Science Fair. Guiding them through their projects helped me appreciate their creativity and curiosity in scientific exploration. By the end of the week, I successfully completed The Village Blacksmith and conducted a diagnostic test to assess students’ understanding.
Moving forward, I started the next chapter, The Song of the Flower, introducing students to its themes and literary elements. Apart from academic responsibilities, I also took up noon meal duty, ensuring students received their meals in an orderly manner.
Overall, this week was a balanced blend of academic instruction, extracurricular engagement, and administrative responsibilities. It provided me with deeper insights into classroom management, student motivation, and the holistic development of learners.
Week 5: (21/10/2024 - 25/10/2024)
This week was filled with various academic and practical experiences as part of my B.Ed. training.
One of the key highlights of the week was my observation day. I had the opportunity to observe classroom interactions, teaching methodologies, and student engagement. This experience helped me understand different teaching techniques and classroom management strategies.
I successfully completed the chapter *Song of the Flower*, ensuring that students grasped the core concepts and themes. Additionally, I introduced a new poem, *First Showers*, which sparked students’ interest and participation.
A representative from the examination cell conducted the NAAS exam evaluation. This was a significant experience as I got insights into the evaluation process and the key assessment criteria used to measure students' performance.
I actively engaged in data collection for my project, which involved gathering relevant information, organizing resources, and structuring my research work efficiently.
Apart from teaching responsibilities, I also took part in school duties, including kitchen duty and noon meal duty. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of holistic school management and student welfare.
This week reinforced the importance of balancing academic responsibilities with practical experiences. Classroom observation, assessment participation, and project work helped me grow as a future educator. The additional responsibilities of kitchen and meal duty also highlighted the importance of teamwork and organization in a school setting.
Overall, this week was a valuable learning experience that contributed to my growth as a teacher-in-training.
Week 6 (28/10/2024 - 01/11/2024)
The sixth week of my teaching practice was a dynamic and eventful one, filled with academic responsibilities, assessments, and cultural celebrations. Each day brought new experiences that contributed to my growth as a teacher and helped me understand the multifaceted role of an educator.
This week, I introduced a new chapter, *The Nightingale and the Rose*, to my students. I aimed to make the lesson engaging by incorporating storytelling techniques and encouraging students to analyze the themes and characters. It was rewarding to see the students actively participate in discussions and express their interpretations of the story. Additionally, I conducted an achievement test to assess their understanding of previous lessons. Evaluating their responses provided valuable insights into their learning progress and areas that needed reinforcement.
On November 1st, the school celebrated *Kerala Piravi*, commemorating the formation of the state of Kerala. The event was vibrant with various cultural programs, including speeches, traditional dance performances, and exhibitions showcasing Kerala's rich heritage. I assisted in organizing the celebration and guided students in their performances. Witnessing their enthusiasm and pride in their culture was truly inspiring.
With the upcoming *Sub-District Youth Festival*, the school conducted practice sessions for students participating in various competitions. As a trainee, I took part in guiding students, providing feedback, and helping them refine their performances. It was fulfilling to encourage their talents and boost their confidence.
Apart from my teaching duties, I was assigned substitution duties for absent teachers. Managing different classes gave me the opportunity to interact with students beyond my regular group and adapt to varied classroom dynamics. I was also involved in noon meal duty, ensuring the smooth distribution of meals and maintaining discipline during lunchtime.
This week reinforced my ability to balance academic responsibilities with extracurricular and administrative tasks. It highlighted the importance of active student engagement, classroom management, and fostering a love for learning. The experience of guiding students in their creative pursuits and celebrating Kerala Piravi deepened my appreciation for the holistic role of a teacher. Overall, it was a fulfilling and enriching week that further strengthened my passion for teaching.
Week 7: (05/11/2024 - 08/11/2024)
This week was a continuation of my journey as a B.Ed trainee, filled with both academic and non-academic responsibilities. I focused on teaching The Nightingale and the Rose, ensuring that students actively engaged with the text through various activities and assignments. I encouraged discussions on the deeper themes of love, sacrifice, and materialism, helping students develop critical thinking skills. Through written exercises and comprehension activities, I assessed their understanding and provided necessary feedback to enhance their learning experience.
In addition to my regular teaching duties, I was assigned substitution duties, where I had to manage different classes in the absence of teachers. This experience helped me improve my classroom management skills and adaptability, as I had to engage students with meaningful discussions and activities despite not having prior preparation for those specific sessions.
Furthermore, I was entrusted with noon meal duty, which involved supervising and assisting in the smooth distribution of meals to students. This task allowed me to understand the importance of discipline and organization in maintaining a structured school environment. It also gave me an opportunity to interact with students beyond the classroom, fostering better teacher-student relationships.

Week 8: (11/11/2024 - 15/11/2024)
This week was an enriching and eventful one in my journey as a B.Ed. trainee. It provided me with various opportunities to develop my teaching skills, enhance my classroom management techniques, and engage with students beyond academics.
The week began with the commencement of the unit test, during which I was assigned invigilation duties for various classes. This was a crucial experience as it required me to maintain discipline and ensure a fair testing environment while also observing student behavior during examinations. It also gave me an opportunity to understand the importance of proper time management and vigilance in an assessment setting.
In terms of teaching, I successfully completed the chapter The Nightingale and the Rose. I made use of different teaching strategies, including storytelling, discussion-based learning, and comprehension exercises, to ensure that students grasped the themes and moral lessons of the story. I encouraged critical thinking by asking students to analyze the characters’ perspectives and discuss the deeper meanings within the text.
Following this, I introduced a new chapter, A Day in the Country. To make the lesson engaging, I incorporated various teaching aids such as visual imagery, real-life examples, and interactive questioning techniques. The students responded enthusiastically, showing keen interest in understanding the themes and character development. Their active participation made the lesson more dynamic and meaningful.
Additionally, I covered important grammar portions, focusing on key concepts that students often find challenging. A significant highlight of the week was the conscientisation programme conducted in the school. This programme aimed to raise awareness on relevant social issues, helping students develop a sense of responsibility and critical awareness. I had the opportunity to be actively involved in the planning and execution of the session, which further enriched my experience in handling extracurricular activities. The discussions held during the programme allowed students to voice their opinions and reflect on their roles in society, making it a meaningful initiative.
Apart from academic and co-curricular engagements, I was assigned noon meal duty, which provided me with an opportunity to interact with students outside the classroom environment. Observing their interactions during lunch and engaging in informal conversations helped me understand their personalities, interests, and challenges beyond academics. This experience reinforced the importance of building rapport with students to create a more inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere.

Through these experiences, I have realized the importance of adaptability, student engagement, and proactive participation in all aspects of school life. As I progress in my training, I aim to refine my teaching methods further and contribute meaningfully to both academics and student development.
Week 9 (18/11/2024 - 23/11/2024)
This week marked the final phase of my teaching practice, making it a truly memorable and emotional experience.
At the beginning of the week, I assisted in distributing school uniforms, ensuring that all students received what they needed. It was heartwarming to see their excitement and gratitude. The yoga session conducted during the week was a refreshing experience, helping both students and teachers relax and rejuvenate.
In academics, I continued with the chapter A Day in the Country and successfully completed it by the end of the week. The discussions and activities surrounding the chapter helped students engage deeply with the themes. Additionally, I conducted a health class, where I emphasized the importance of hygiene, nutrition, and physical well-being. The students were highly interactive, asking insightful questions that showed their keen interest in the subject.
Apart from teaching, I had to fill in the necessary registers as instructed by the Headmaster since the previous week. This administrative task helped me understand the importance of maintaining school records efficiently. Additionally, I was assigned NAAS examination duty, which gave me firsthand experience in conducting exams, managing students, and ensuring a smooth process.
As the final day of my teaching practice approached, I felt a mix of emotions. Saying goodbye to my students was incredibly difficult. Their love and attachment were evident as they held me back, not wanting me to leave. I was overwhelmed by the thoughtful gifts they gave me, tokens of appreciation that I will cherish forever. The teachers, too, showered us with blessings, offering words of encouragement for our future as educators.
This week reinforced my passion for teaching and the strong bonds that can be formed in a classroom. The experience has been invaluable, shaping me into a more confident and compassionate teacher. Though my teaching practice has come to an end, the lessons I have learned and the memories I have created will stay with me forever.
